Pike's public career began in 2007 when he was elected to the St. George City Council, where he served until he was elected mayor in 2013.
In addition to stepping down as mayor, Pike will also resign from his role as southwest Utah operations director for SelectHealth, the health insurance division of Intermountain Healthcare.
Though he's taking a role heading a department based at the capitol in Salt Lake City, Pike said he will still live in St. George. He expects to travel to the capitol on a near weekly basis, he said, but he'll have an office in Cedar City — likely on the Southern Utah University campus.
"I will miss this very much," Pike said about his time as mayor of St. George. "It's one of those situations where you're moving from something that's just great to something that's also great, just in a different way."
